Forest–Water Ecological Corridor Development Program
โครงการพัฒนาแนวเชื่อมต่อทางนิเวศป่าไม้และน้ำ
Establish a national network of Forest–Water Ecological Corridors that reconnects forests, headwaters, streams, wetlands, riparian zones, and downstream ecosystems.
Restore ecological connectivity so that water, wildlife, vegetation, nutrients, and ecological processes can move through the landscape without being unnecessarily fragmented.
Connect fragmented forest ecosystems with natural water systems to strengthen the Forest–Water–Humidity Cycle and watershed resilience.
Protect and restore critical corridors that support water regulation, biodiversity, habitat connectivity, soil conservation, and climate adaptation.
Reduce ecological fragmentation caused by roads, settlements, agricultural expansion, infrastructure, land conversion, and other barriers.
Establish a spatial framework that connects individual restoration projects into a continuous ecological network at watershed and landscape scales.
Ensure that ecological corridors function as living infrastructure, supporting both ecosystem recovery and long-term watershed stability.
Establish a National Forest–Water Ecological Corridor Development Framework defining corridor principles, classifications, planning standards, and implementation mechanisms.
Map existing and potential ecological connections among:
Forest ecosystems
Headwater areas
Rivers and streams
Wetlands
Riparian zones
Floodplains
Groundwater-dependent ecosystems
Agricultural landscapes
Other critical habitats
Identify Forest–Water Connectivity Gaps where forests and water ecosystems are physically or functionally disconnected.
Identify priority corridors using criteria such as:
Ecological importance
Hydrological connectivity
Biodiversity value
Habitat fragmentation
Watershed importance
Climate resilience
Restoration potential
Pressure from land-use change
Classify corridors according to their primary function, such as:
Headwater–Forest Corridors
River–Riparian Corridors
Forest–Wetland Corridors
Floodplain–Waterway Corridors
Cross-Landscape Ecological Corridors
Climate Refuge and Connectivity Corridors
Restore degraded corridor segments through appropriate combinations of:
Native vegetation restoration
Natural regeneration
Riparian restoration
Wetland restoration
Soil recovery
Erosion control
Removal or modification of unnecessary barriers
Reconnection of fragmented habitats
Prioritize natural regeneration and ecosystem recovery where ecological conditions allow rather than creating artificial corridors solely through planting.
Establish riparian buffer and ecological protection zones along priority waterways based on local ecological and hydrological conditions.
Reconnect isolated forest patches with streams, wetlands, and other habitat areas through strategically located restoration areas.
Identify and address barriers to ecological and hydrological connectivity, including:
Roads
Culverts and poorly designed crossings
Dams and weirs
Drainage structures
Urban development
Agricultural expansion
Fences and other physical barriers
Develop wildlife and aquatic connectivity solutions where roads and infrastructure intersect ecological corridors.
Integrate ecological corridor planning into land-use planning and infrastructure development so that new development does not create additional fragmentation.
Establish corridor protection and land-management mechanisms for areas where ecological connectivity remains intact.
Develop incentive mechanisms for landowners and local communities participating in corridor conservation and restoration.
Establish cross-boundary corridor governance where corridors cross provinces, districts, local-government jurisdictions, or different land-tenure systems.
Integrate corridor development with:
AC-SI-021-03-01 Forest–Water–Humidity Cycle Assessment
AC-SI-021-03-02 Watershed Forest and Moisture Recovery Program
AC-SI-021-03-03 Landscape Water Retention and Infiltration Restoration Program
